      Ryan Harper entered the department in 2006. He holds degrees from Southeast Missouri State (B.S., M.A., English) and Duke University Divinity School (M.T.S.). For the fall 2012 semester, Ryan is teaching two courses of his own design at Swarthmore College-Religion in America and American Idols: Sacred and Secular Music. His dissertation is an ethnography of the Gaither Homecomings - a southern gospel music video and concert series that has outgrossed every other enterprise in evangelical Christian music. Ryan's interests include Christianity and music, modern Christian thought and/in practice, twentieth-century American literature, literary theory, and religion and gender. His recent publications include articles on evangelicalism and poetry and on evangelical Christianity masculinity following the Promise Keeper movement.
