Congratulations to Peter Schäfer, Ronald O. Perelman Professor of Jewish Studies Emeritus, Longstanding director of Princeton’s Program in Judaic Studies, and Professor of Religion, who, together with the Nobel Prize winner Herta Müller and the Australian-British Historian Christopher Clark, was awarded the Order Pour le Mérite on June 19th.   The Order Pour le Mérite was established in 1740 by King Frederick II of Prussia to recognize “men and women who have acquired an excellent reputation through widespread recognition of their services in science and art.”
