John Chapman, Class of 2007

Position
Managing Director TPH&Co., the energy business of Perella Weinberg Partners
Bio/Description

My first job out of Princeton was at Miller Buckfire, a restructuring-focused investment bank in New York, where I spent six years. Since 2013 I have been in Houston at TPH&Co., where we advise Energy companies on mergers and acquisitions and capital raises. I specifically focus on advising Energy Infrastructure companies with a core group of a half dozen or so of my colleagues.

I admittedly was on the receiving end of a few raised eyebrows when interviewing for investment banking jobs with a Religion concentration. However, I am firmly of the belief that my experience in the department, along with a Finance certificate, has prepared me extremely well for my career. While the math and finance components of our work are self evident, I believe intellectual curiosity, the ability to grapple with complexity and effective communication are far more important, and it is these latter skills that the department instilled, encouraged and reinforced.
