Senior Deadlines and Important Dates

Week of September 5: Individual meetings with Dr. Perry; schedule through https://calendly.com/sethp/rel-senior-meeting.

Sept. 11th, (Mon., 12:30): Mandatory Senior Meeting – Department Lounge
Students notified of thesis adviser assignments following the meeting.

Before September 22nd: Students meet with thesis adviser.

Oct. 6th, (Fri.): Submit five-page thesis proposal to adviser     
The proposal should include (at minimum):

  • description of topic, scope of the project, and methodological approach you plan to take
  • discussion of how your coursework at Princeton or elsewhere has prepared you to pursue the topic
  • a brief survey of sources and discussion of the kinds of evidence you plan to use
  • a discussion of the contribution your work will make to the existing scholarship in your area
  • a preliminary bibliography
  • a preliminary writing plan or chapter outline

Week of Nov. 13th: Meet with Director of Undergraduate Studies to review Spring Course Selections – make appointment through Calendly.

Complete Departmental Academic Planning Form (DAPF) in TigerHub.

Thursday November 30: Send thesis excerpts to Dr. Perry for discussion in the Junior Colloquium (optional, but c’mon).

Friday December 1: Come to the Junior colloquium for discussion (optional, but fun and useful).

Dec. 18th: Submit partial first draft (20 pages) via email to adviser by 3:00pm

Week of January 29th: Students meet with thesis adviser to discuss writing schedule for Spring

Mar. 25th: Submit draft of entire thesis to adviser

April 15th: Submit two copies of thesis:

                  1 to Thesis Central
                  1 PDF to Michelle Medici by 12:00pm  

EXTENSIONS:  Extensions of independent work deadlines may be granted only under extraordinary circumstances, usually involving medical conditions, and students must petition the director of undergraduate studies in advance of the deadline. Individual advisers cannot grant extensions. For extensions beyond the University thesis deadline, students must consult their residential college Dean or Assistant Dean for Studies.. Late theses which have not received an approved extension will be assessed grade penalties as described in the Independent Work Extension Policy and Late Penalties document

April 17th  at 12:30pm: Mandatory meeting for seniors, department lounge
(Discussion on Senior Comprehensive Examinations)

May 3th: Email Senior Comprehensive Statement to Michelle Medici              

May 6th: Students receive comments from first and second readers

May 8th and 9th, (Wed. - Thurs.): Senior Comprehensive Orals (You MUST leave these dates open andunscheduled.)  Each exam allotted 90 minutes

May 27th, (Mon. 1:30-2:30): Class Day Reception

May 28th, (Tues.): Commencement Day
